Another possible (less sinister) take on these types of questions...
Although we conscientiously pay our maintenance fees, I sometimes feel =
it's valuable to use this forum to ask a question pertaining to a tool. =
Perhaps it's easier, or I think someone might have had opportunity to =
explore the exact issue I'm wrestling with.
So, I would leave open the possibility that these types of postings =
aren't ONLY intended to circumvent maintenance fees, and continue =
allowing/encouraging them.
But, I really appreciate Charles pointing out the ethics involved. =
Pirated software (or shadows of it) is a pet peeve of mine, also. I =
would encourage all to insist that their company maintain high ethical =
standards regarding maintenance fees, etc.
As always, I'm sure Ray A. will voice the "right thing" if this turns =
into too much of a fur-ball.

Ok OK I'm gonna play the bad guy here.
I would encourage the folks on the SI-List
that use HFSS and (I assume) pay their
maintenance fees- NOT to answer this type
of technical question.
Let me explain why.
As a former Ansoft AE I have some insight
into the costs involved in technical software
support.=3D20
Ansoft - as do other EM Simulation companies
employ Apps Engineers to answers exactly
this kind of customer question. The companies
that pay their maintenance fees get access to =3D20
Apps Engineers and software upgrades. The=3D20
maintainence fees also help fund the support
function. So although its jolly tempting
to display one's ability with a esoteric
EM tool - I suggest that this undermines=3D20
the support process and should not be=3D20
encouraged in this forum.

Subject: [SI-LIST] Question related to HFSS: Zpi, Zpv, Zvi difference
Can any people tell me the difference between the three kinds of=3D20
characteristic impedance: Zpi, Zpv, Zvi.
Manual had given out the definition of these parameters.
Why I ask this question is that one HFSS simulation gives out very =3D
different
Zpi, Zpv, Zvi results. And Zpv is very close to 2D simulation result.
The case is a CPW line. The results is that Zpi=3D3D296 Zpv=3D3D77 =3D
Zvi=3D3D155. Why?
Thanks! I need youe xp very much indeed!
