Hi Radhika,
 The simplest VCO used is current starved Vco where
you can vary the oscillator frequecny by starving the
current through the invertors. It has three inverter
stages with current through Pmos and Nmos controlled
by current mirror. I used this for PLL simulations for
grad course and it worked well. 
 But the best bet would be to use Gain boosted ckt
which would be very stable. I believe it would
necessitate the use of simple op-amp(diff amp) to make
it work. In that case you will have to go through
design of diff amp.
 You can find current-starved vco easily in the net
and the design for w/l for invertors are easy and you
can just get it to work by trial and error.
