I think you will enjoy a paper given at DesignCon in January of this year by
Scott McMorrow of Teraspeed.
Check it out on their website www.teraspeed.com The article you want to look
at is "A Hybrid Measurement and Field Solver Approach..."
In my opinion, it is also an example of a state-of-the-art modeling approach
with respect to software tools.

I'm a student at UMass and am looking for a source of info to find out
how to determine the impedance of a footprint pad.
What I'm looking for is pointers to reference material or
paper(s) on launch design.
I would like to do some reading on the subject particularly as it applies
to connector footprints.
