The can will exhibit resonant modes based on its dimensions in all three
axes. This will affect what leaks in each direction at any seams and/or
apertures. It will also potentially give you surprise undesirable
coupling between elements within the can. If you really don't want any
surprises you can: Design the can to be very small compared to your
wavelengths, ie less than a quarter wave on any diagonal, rely on Q
suppression techniques, and/or evaluate in a 3D tool like Ansoft, CST
etc. Scott McMorrow has 3D tools from multiple vendors and does this
stuff all day long.
