I went through the same eval about a year ago and I found both HFSS and
CST are accurate and fast enough for my application (high speed 3D
discontinuity modeling). Both tools have excellent support team to stand
behind their product.
In the end I chose CST because :
a) CST offer two solid modeling GUI for a single license. That means I
can have two guys working on two different models at the same time.
Solving engine can be batch off at different time. I always found solid
modeling part is the most PITA. Solving the model is just a click of the
button. I think it is very wise for CST to offer two solid modeling
GUIs, to me its almost like two licenses in one.
b) Time domain solution inheritably is more parallelizable in the
current multi-cores environment. This is a big advantage when the # of
ports start to go up and I have a deep pocket for more engines.
c) I have already invested $$ on an EMI tool CST bought.
Personally I don't see how a decision can be made on either of these
tool purely based on speed and accuracy. They are both good and you can
always construct a case to skew one up against the other and reverse. If
you have a design that will make or break due to the % differences
between the two tools, you've a bigger problem than just the tool
itself.
You need to spell out your application before anyone can help you.
