[SI-LIST] Re: Differential pair impedance

Bill,

I wrestled with this a few years ago myself. The cable manufacturers I've
seen give the differential impedance in the specification. I had a trouble
finding a definition of differential Z in my old textbook ("Analysis of
Multiconductor Transmission Lines", Paul), although it is a good and fairly
thorough book. Instead of doing a full literature search at the library, I
went through the derivation myself. I've included it with an explanation
for correlation with Innoveda's XFX Transmission Line Parameters.

Subject: [SI-LIST] Differential pair impedance

Hello all,

Im doing some work with differential pair signalling and the manufacturer's
data book lists the charactoristic impedance for the differential pair.

Is this number for each line of the pair, or the pair together? If it is
for the pair together, how are the calculations made?

The documentation I found was fairly lean, so any help would be
appreciated.

Thanks,
Bill
