Noise pickup will be predominantly by the traces and not by the IC
itself, keep the sense line traces short. Use a 4 terminal resistor for
best accuracy with a sense resistance of 30 mOhms you can probably cheat
with a 4 trace hookup

Subject: [SI-LIST] Battery Monitoring PCB design tradeoff...
Hello to all!
I'm doing a battery monitoring card with the MAX1660.
The card basicaly has a high current loop (this loop has the pack
external connector, the battery connector and a 30mOhm resistor to
measure
the current). My doubt is:
where should I put the analog sampling part of the MAX1660?
Solution 1
+Near the sense resistor
Pro:
-> minimize the trace length from the sense resistor to the analog
input
Con:
-> more vulnerable to noise
Solution 2
+Far from the sense resistor
Pro:
-> avoid the noise generated by the high current loop
Con:
-> the trace length from the sense resistor to the analog input is
bigger
Maxim in the MAX1660 Eval kit puts the Max1660 far from the high current
loop (the trace from the sense resistor is bigger).
Is this the best solution?
Thanks in advance
Best Regards
Bruno
