[SI-LIST] Antw: SPARTAN IIE Voltage regulator selection

Hello Ismail,

I use a LM1117DTX-1.8 (1.8V 800mA) Low-Dropout Linear regulator from=20
National Semiconductor to supply a Spartan XC2S50E-6FT256C FPGA and=20
a Motorola MCF5407FT162A CPU without any problems.=20
The CPU needs about 200mA for the core supply, so the my Spartan FPGA could=
=20
take max. 600 mA.
The Spartan IIE Family requires min. 500 mA in the Commercial Version (Data
from Xilinx DS077-3 Data Sheet).=20
So I think you could use a LM1117 too.
The LM1117 is available as STO-223 and DPAK(TO-252) from National Semicondu=
ctor (LM1117),=20
STMicroelectronics (ST1117), ON Semiconductor (NCP1117) ....

Robert Nowak=20

Hello there!

I want to know if anyone used SPARTAN IIE FPGA in any of their design. It
seems that
the FPGA draws a high current during start up which appers almost like a
short circuit=20
I am in the process of selecting an appropriate Voltage regulator but not
sure how good=20
it will be. My worst fear is that once the Voltage regulator senses the hig=
h
current draw=20
it may shutdown. It will be of great help if anyone could provide the part
number/manfacturer
of Voltage regulator used in their earlier (working :) ) design.

Thanks,
Ismail
