Shawn,
As originator of that thread, I should say your assumption is not correct.
That is, your posting was not on my mind when I wrote. I am not surprised if
there are several others who also might've thought the thread is about
his/her posting. In fact, it is not referring to any individuals in
particular. Of late, I noticed the trend of private responses to list
postings. I was only trying to suggest that it is OK to respond on-line
without concern for accuracy. The forum will take care of accuracy ...
Cheers,
Sainath

Sainath, Doug, Bill, Bob:
I assume you are describing my post to the list of Dr. Jim Rautio's
information on the definition of 2.5D EM software.
Sorry that I didn't clarify the posting better. Dr. Rautio had tried to
post the email to the list, and for some reason it didn't go through the
list. If you check the email I forwarded, you will see
"Si-List@xxxxxxxxxxxxx" on the cc: list. He was running out the door to
catch a plane to Japan, and asked me to re-post the message for him, as he
felt it was of interest to the SI-List community.
Sorry for the confusion, but there was no violation of confidence of mis-use
of Dr. Rautio's email.
Thanks for insightful comments, however.

Subject: [SI-LIST] Answering Protocol
Season's Greetings,
Here is a situation. Suppose I ask another list member, John Doe*, a
question (by posting it on the list) assuming the answer would be of
interest to some other members as well. If I get the reply from John
addressed only to me and there is need for further discussion, I am faced
with this dilemma: Should I forward it to the list to continue discussion
on-line? or, should I keep the discussion off-line? Either way, there are
issues...ethical and others.
Why John chose to go off-line? John was not entirely sure what he/she was
talking about or the reply possibly raises even more concerns or some other
things one can think of. Simple cases such as John (correctly) assumed the
reply was not of general interest or John was given a choice to reply
off-line are precluded.
What would you do in such situations? I believe the primary purpose of any
forum is to bring out better ideas; who-talked-what is secondary (I know
this is primary door way for egos, images etc.). If that definition works, I
would encourage posting replies on the list. Those replies come with
self-imposed moderation as bonus!
* Is he on this list? ;-)
Regards,
Sainath
