All,
The hilighting has been made even simpler with the
14.x release of Allegro. Go to Setup->User Preferences->
Display and you will see the variable described below.
This automatically changes the users local env file
and not the system copy. And yes it is retained for
each session.

Oleg,
Jeff is correct about the "candy-stripe" look of the highlighted net
and the use of the environment variable. If used in the manner he
describes, it is only good for the current session.

You can however make it more permanent by using a local environment
file in the local pcbenv directory.

By default, Allegro (and SPECCTRAQuest) creates a local pcbenv
directory the first time either are invoked. It is written to your
home directory. (On the PC you must have defined a System Environment
Variable named $HOME. If you did not, then the C: drive is considered
the home directory).

You copy, from the install_dir/share/pcb/text, a file named env to
the local pcbenv directory. It is important you copy the file. DO NOT
move it. The tools use the original file contents for many things.

You will edit the copied env file removing everything and adding this:

source $ALLEGRO_INSTALL_DIR\text\env.

This references the variable settings in the original env file. To
get the solid line effect add the following to the next line in the
copied env file:

set display_nohilitefont

Save and close the env file. Save the file without an extension. That
is, the saved file name will be env and be located in the local
pcbenv directory.

When Allegro (or SPECCTRAQuest) is invoked the tool reads the local
env file first. Because you source the original env file from the
local file, it is read and default variables set. Then the next
setting in the local env file is read and any new variables set.

Now you only have to unset the variable, if you choose to do so, using

unset display_nohilitefont

at the Allegro command prompt.

The local env file is very useful in this manner.

Hope this helps,

Ken
