It is my understanding that according the the GPL, litestep modules must technically be released under the GPL as well, but I doubt anyone would enforce it. (it's being linked to litestep, and if nothing else, presumably shares lsapi.h) If you use portions of source from a GPL'ed module, the requirement is much more clear, and I suspect the urgings from the community would be as well. (tho that's different if you have special permission from the author, of course) The GPL does not require you to release the code with the binary if you include a "written" promise to deliver the source to anyone who requests it for 3 years. I have not included this with RabidVWM, but I have made it clear from the beginning that I intend to release the source when it's ready, and I have sent the code in its current state to anyone who asked. Legally, I don't think this is sufficient, but otherwise I've had nothing more than the occasional reminder to release the code. (which I'm actually working on again...) So my advice would be to include in the documentation an explanation as to why the source code is not included, a promise to send it to anyone who asks, and your intention to release the code with the module when it's ready. -rabidcow On Wed, 17 Jul 2002 16:00:06 -0700 "Brian Todoroff" <brian@xxxxxxxxxxxx> writes: > I'm working on a new LS module and am close to having a "pre-alpha" > ready. > I'd like to let the adventurous give it a try, but the source code > in not > ready to see the light of day.
