& Erick Dresner
Erick peered out from the corner. It was going to be a quick run. He wouldn't see it coming. But Erick was nervous, the last time he attempted this, he was caught, beaten and then turned over to the authorities. But Erick was desperate, he needed to get out of the city, and the last ship to dock wouldn't open it's doors for two thousand credits at least. Erick blew a few quick breaths out, countered and moved quickly towards his unsuspecting... victim?
Colton Bellasario was walking briskly down a side alley. He usually wouldn't bother to dirty himself with such a walk, but given the circumstances and his predicament, he found it pertinent to avoid the main thoroughfares. Lane had gone ahead to find a suitable transport so his belongings were following Colton obediently on a pre-programmed gravity sled. Colton kept his eyes forward and didn't respond to the beggars who had taken to asking for help. "Get a job." Colton said rudely to one, his gaze still cast ahead of him.
Erick was almost upon him, if it wasn't for the homeless getting in his way. In a burst of speed, Erick knocked the man sideways, his hands outstretched as if he knew where to go and what to look for and within a few handful of seconds, the wallet was in his hands.
It caught him off guard, but he wasn't a fool to muggings. He pivoted on his heel and tore off down the alley, the head of the mugger bobbing in and out of the crowd. Just a few feet more... SLAM! Colton had wrapped his arms around the man's head and drove him into the ground. "Give me back my wallet ... and ... I won't hurt you." Colton said as he rolled around on the ground, fighting with the boy.
Erick struggled and managed to get out of the man's grasp, struggling to his feet, he kept running.
Colton was fast, pulling a hypospray from his pocket that he always kept on him. He wrapped his arm around the man's leg with a dive and the boy fell to the ground. Colton lifted the man's pant leg and jabbed the hypospray into his leg, no doubt sending a white hot pain through the man's lower leg and up onto his torso.
"Fuck!" Erick hissed, "what the fuck are you doing!?"
"It's a pain, isn't it?" Colton said, pulling himself up and straddling the young man, pushing the hypospray to his neck. "Trust me on this one, it's going to make your head explode if I administer it again. Not literally, mind you, but it's going to make you want to die. Now, what the hell were you doing taking my wallet? I thought the Federation was above petty theft among its citizens."
"Here!" Erick frantically fished out the wallet gave it up, "just make the pain stop! I thought Fed citizens were above torture!"
Colton shifted things around in his other pocket and pulled out a blue vial. After enclosing it in his hypospray he held to the man's neck again. "Tell me, what are you doing down here in the slums?"
"I could ask you the same thing. You're lucky you weren't jumped by a group of thugs out here. Now let me go." Erick struggled, but the young man was pinned.
"I'm moving from one place to another and attempting to avoid being seen by certain people." Colton said, feeling the boy squirm a bit underneath him. "You want a job?"
Erick looked up more seriously now. The guy was kidding, wasn't he? Erick had just tried to mug him and now he had a job offer, the young man slowly nodded, "Yeah."
Colton's eyes narrowed, "The first rule is that you never touch my wallet or any of my supplies, do you understand?" He waited for the acknowledgment and then he pressed the antidote to the man's neck and stood, offering his hand to him. "I need someone who knows the private shuttle bays around here to get me a transport to a ship in orbit. It hasn't been chosen yet, but I need to secure a simple transport there."
Erick nodded confidently at the rather too easy task. Maybe the pay will get him onto a transport and out of this one-in-a-million hell holes. He dusted himself off a little, "alright.""Two hours to figure out someone who will transport me into lunar orbit, all right?" He stared at the young boy, suddenly realizing the immense importance of the task he was giving him.
"I'll give you this. It's a transceiver that will link be directly to my personal communicator. If you lose it, I'll kill you. If you pawn it, I'll kill you. Do you understand, boy?"
"For someone in a rush, you certainly find the time for killing," Erick mumbled but nodded as he took the transceiver and tucked it into his jean pocket.
Colton grabbed the man's face, turning it to face his own, "Listen to me. I'm bestowing upon you a great honor. And, I'm offering a fair amount if you do this successfully. Be thankful I don't kill you right now and leave you dead here in the alleyway." He let go, brushing off the grime he'd collected from the man's cheek. "Now, can you do it or not?"
"Yeah, I'll get it done," Erick said hastily. He picked up his backpack, slinging it over his shoulder.
"By the way, what's your name?"
"You can call me Mr. Bellasario or sir." Colton stared at the boy, hoping his sincerity would pierce the kid's soul and hammer it into his head. "Two hours."
Erick gave a non-chalant shrug, tugging upon his back a little more, "Two hours, you'll get something." With that he found his direction and disappeared into a gaseous alley.
Colton's gaze followed the boy until he disappeared. He lingered for a moment, checking his supplies, his eyes dancing back to the alleyway again. "I'm going to regret this, I have a feeling," Colton said aloud to no one in particular, "yes, yes I believe that I am."
