I can't speak for all of them, but I know the IBM Thinkpad I use at work has NO
built in CD drive. The school district provided an external drive for all
Thinkpad users that plugs into a USB port.

By the way, I've been lurking on this list since it began. I "knew" Jerry from
the middle level educators list we were both on. My days on that list are
winding down as I will be retiring at the end of this school year. I've been
teaching 7th grade for the last forever years, and am looking forward to
pursuing new adventures in my upcoming retirement.
