did you get a error message that there is no networkcard in the system
while installation? If so, your network card may not be detected by
the kernel. Try installing the latest kernel with the command
apt-get install linux-image-2.6.21-2-XXX (replace XXX with the 486 or
686 based on the value you get with the command uname -r)
and try configure the network after reboot. This may work for any
device like usbmodem, soundcard, tv tuner, scanner etc which is not
detected by the default kernel which is 2.6.18
In some cases you may have to disable the automatic network
configuration applet (a small mouse like icon near the time display in
the top panel) to get the network connection work perfectly.
Also you can try removing the .ssh folder from your home directory
before using the connect to server option.
thanks and regards,
