There are some problems reported by teachers using new
versions of IT@school linux. The softexam version 4 released last year is
still being used by many schools as it was told them to use the old version
only. This version of softexam do nut run on new IT@school gnu linux. SO at
some schools I had to install old version of IT@SCHOOL linux just for this
reason.

I tried Softexam version 5.0 (2006) on the new IT@School GNU/Linux and it worked for me after some hacking. Try removing the "localhost.localdomain" from the file /etc/hosts If it is still not working, please inform me.

Softexam windows version run without problem and some teachers are
getting bad feeling of using GNU/Linux. Please try to avoid this kind of
mismatch and see if any remedy can be done at the earliest before all
schools start using Softexam and face the problems.

The new IT@School GNU/Linux contain Openoffice version 2 and the softexam 5 is made to work with openoffice 1.0. So I'm not sure about the softexam's performance with OpenOffice 2.

Please try the above mentioned method and try run softexam. Also send
me any error message displayed while trying to run the program.
