Montr=C3=A9a= l (UQAM) are searching for Postdoctoral Fellows and/or
ResearchAssociates = to join a network recently funded by the Canadian
Foundation for Climate an= d Atmospheric Sciences entitled
=E2=80=9CPrediction and Predictability of t= he Global Atmosphere-Ocean
System from Days to Decades=E2=80=9D. 

The successful candidates will collaborate with rese= archers at Dalhousie
University, UQAM other universities in the network, an= d with scientists
from Environment Canada and Fisheries and Oceans Canada, = on numerical
modelling and data assimilation involving both ocean and coupl= ed
atmosphere-ocean models. 

The overall goal of the network is to i= mprove forecasts of the ocean and
atmosphere on time-scales of days to deca= des, and space scales of tens of
km (e.g., ocean eddies) to global. The suc= cessful applicants will focus on
time-scales of days to seasons. The projec= t involves the assimilation of a
wide range of data types, including relati= vely new data streams such as
temperature and salinity profiles from Argo f= loats, into ocean and coupled
models using novel assimilation schemes. Spec= ific research activities
include: enhancing ocean and coupled atmosphere-oc= ean modeling and data
assimilation capabilities; identifying the sources of= , and limits to,
predictability in the ocean and coupled system; and undert= aking and
physically interpreting decadal scale reanalyses. 

The suc= cessful applicants will have a Ph.D. in Atmospheric Science,
Physical Ocean= ography or related discipline. Experience in running and
developing state-o= f-the-art ocean and/or atmosphere models is required.
Knowledge of dat= a assimilation is desirable. Appointments will begin as
soon as possible af= ter January 1, 2007 and will initially be for a 12
monthperiod. Extensions= may be granted for up to three more years subject
toperformance. The annu= al salary will be commensurate with qualifications
and experience.
