I just want to let you know Paul, that May might not be good depending when we
schedule Astronomy Day on.
plus all of the Spokane Events that happen in the month of May.

Thanks so much for your quick response, Paul, I will be out of the office until
Wednesday of next week, but I will contact you then and see what we might be
able to set-up. I'll take a look at our program schedule and see what we might
be able to do.
Best,
Gwendolyn

The drawing occurred August 13th. I assume we did not win because I didn't hear
anything.
So plan B--we have collected most of the funds for your telescope but have not
yet placed the order. As for observing, that is a great idea. The club hosts
star parties at our dark sky location west of Cheney--Fishtrap--every month on
the Saturday(s) closest to the new moon.
We also have events in town from time to time, astronomy day in the spring and
fall. The fall one has been held in conjunction with Vallefest.
I know we would be delighted to do a workshop or two in the spring, to
demonstrate how to use the telescope. Shadle Park has one now, and we have had
some training sessions for it. But giving a workshop on things to look for and
how to use equipment in the "library of things," I'll volunteer.
If you know of a location absent obnoxious street lights with a decent view of
the sky (in a park or on top a building), we can probably get four or five club
members to set up telescopes for a public star party.
For in town the first quarter moon is a decent target. March 3rd, 2017 is a
Friday. Mars & Venus will be low in the west and the moon will be a crescent
between them and Orion, passing over Orion on March 5th.
April 1st is a Saturday. Mars and Mercury will be in the west, and Jupiter
rising in the east. The moon will have again rolled around above Orion.
May 5th or May 6th should be good first quarter moon days, though the sky will
be lighter by 8:00 pm. The moon will be closing in on Virgo, and Jupiter near
its heart. Mars will be near Aldebaran in the west. Saturn won't rise until
after 11:30.
June 2nd Castor and Pollux will be stamping Mars beneath the western horizon at
sunset. Saturn will just be poking up about 9:30, while Jupiter will be caught
between Spica and the moon, still in Virgo.

January through April. January is usually kind of cold and undependable in
terms of weather. You want to do one of these each month?

Hello Paul,
Danielle Marcy (of our Moran Prairie Library) passed your contact
information on to me. We are so very excited that the astronomy society
wants to gift us with a telsecope. I would like to talk about having some
Astronomy programs in the Spring--we are currently setting dates for all of
our January-April programs at all 10 libraries.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Best regards,
Gwendolyn
