The X-Change, a Bridging the Gap program, will continue in the tradition of addressing social and environmental issues affecting youth. Youth will participate in trainings that address conflict resolution, critical thinking and goal setting. Youth will develop a 10-point strategy to address issues that they recognize in their home community. This one-day event will be January 17, 2011 in Columbia, SC at Heyward Career and Technology Center. Bridging the Gap was originally organized in 1997, by a Columbia High School student, as a one-day event to address social and environmental impacts that led to negative attitudes of youth behaviors in their home community. The project was later presented at Duquesne University at global meeting of the Network of Communities for Peacemaking and Conflict Resolution (NCPCR). The idea of a youth lead programming to address youth-centered issues was a huge success and led to the establishment of the World Summit of Youth Peacemakers in 2000, a bi-annual meeting of global youth change-makers. Past participation for this event has come from a diverse population of youth that have proven successful in developing solutions that lead to beneficial youth-centered programming in their local communities. This limited capacity event is also open to teachers and parents interested in learning resources available in their local community. The deadline for early registration is December 15, 2010.
