[samscommunity] Test Taking Tips (PACT)

MESSAGE FROM ST. ANDREWS MIDDLE SCHOOL:

PACT begins on Monday, May 7, 2007. Please be sure your child is physically
prepared.

Students should arrive to school by 8:30 AM. Teachers normally start testing
at 8:45 AM.

If your child is late, he/she will not be allowed to interrupt the test. Tardy
students will have to take the test on a makeup day.

What can parents do to help their children?

§ Children should be encouraged to do their best on the test. They should
know the test is important without being anxious about taking it.

§ Children should have a good night`s sleep (a minimum of 8 hours) and
breakfast Test morning is not the time for a high-sugar snack -- or no
breakfast at all. A nutritious and filling breakfast is a must..

§ Review some simple test-taking strategies such as moving on if they do
not know the answer - they can come back later.

§ Remind children to check their answers carefully. (Watch the numbers of
the questions and be sure to be marking the right box on the answer sheet.)

§ Parents should also remember the limitations of standardized tests. A
test is like a photo - a one-time look at your child`s performance.

EVERY child has skills and abilities that cannot be measured by test.

What can students do to help themselves?

· Get a good night's sleep (a minimum of 8 hours)

· Come prepared

· Eat a good breakfast

· Get to school on time and have a positive attitude

· Be alert, stay calm and don't worry or panic

· Follow directions. Read and listen with care

· Read all possible choices for each question before answering

· Select the best answer. It will not be helpful to spend a lot of time
on a question you dont'
        know

· Mark the answer in the correct place

· Do your best when taking a test!
