Bravo Melissa Bowan! I agree with you totally. The answer to your question:
Who grades our schools? Our school is graded by the State Department according
to test scores from our students! The level of education earned by the
teachers along with their absentism on the job. Tracking of students per year
according to test scores. If students and their families are transient, that
brings
down the continuity of learning. Serving all students is important. If you are
busy dealing with behavior problems and issues from homes, well that burns the
academic rigor that is needed in the classrooms.
Teachers cannot teach if they are riot police. Has anyone sat in a classroom
at SAMS? I have and my son is an AAP student. The low level of respect to
teachers and adults in general is too much for me to digest.
Overall I am satisfied with the job my son's teachers are doing! I buckled
down on him. He has to be responsible for his learning. His PACT scores are
good
but I want them to be better. I make sure he is reading good literature,
limited TV time, and structured activity. No video games during the school year.
Only on holiday and Summer. That time is also limited. If your child spends
ample time in the tube or video gamming, well how can a teacher compete with
that
kind of entertainment.
If parents are not a part of the "Buckled Down Crowd" then your child, our
children will not be successful. Slack parents=slack children. A Parent of a
Seventh Grade SAMS student. Rosalind Cook-Hillian
