True..and I have. I even said something to Mr. Richardson and I honestly did
not want to come back after what I had seen but I will not give up on SAMS.
Remember back in the day when we were in school. Um, if you even thought
about acting bad the teachers back then had something for your behind. Irmo
has a class were the "out of control" students go to but not sure how it is
done or ogranize. As a matter of fact the guy that is over this class is
not a teacher by degree, but has a degree. He used to work for DJJ and his
name is Tim Holmes. He says and I quote, "I get the kids that are off the
chain". Do SAMS have something like that or can we find out how to do
something like that?

Totally agree....try observing the classroom sometimes.... some of the =

would settle down ......they don't....awful!!!

Subject: [samscommunity] Re: School Report Cards
Hi, my name is Tamara Jacobs and I have an 8th grader at SAMS. I =
transferred him from Alcorn Middle School because of the school's poor =
performance. I was never really satisfied with the way they ran that =
middle school, but what else could I afford to do. I use to be very =
involved in the school, but when you're rubbed the wrong way by the =
principal himself, well, you're fighting a loosing battle. All I could =
do at that time was look out for MY child. When I got the opportunity =
to have him moved because of the school's grade I quickly had him moved =
to SAMS. I can definitely see a difference in him and in his work.
=20
I'm not going to sit here and look at another school district =
(Lexington) and wonder how they do it. I KNOW how they do it! Those =
parents are VERY involved in their children's school and they shell out =
money out of their own pockets as well. Don't let them fool you. Those =
parents go deep in their pockets and pay. They pay for the education =
that their children are getting and they support that school and their =
teachers. That's how THEY do it.
=20
How do WE do it? Well SOME of us are involved in our child's school and =
SOME of us even support our teachers, but the MAJORITY of us think it's =
someone's job and rely on them to do it. I for one am very involved in =
my children's schools and I help them with their work. I don't =
volunteer in the classrooms like I would like to, but I do observe every =
once and a while and all I've got to say is, THERE HAS GOT TO BE ANOTHER =
WAY TO DO THIS!
=20
For those of you who have never observed a class or even monitored =
during lunch time, it's amazing. Some of these children are out of =
control. And just when you think that calling their parents would =
resolve some of this, some of their parents are just as bad as the =
child. Then what do you do with that child? That child never had a =
chance with parents like that. I've seen it first hand and it's ugly. =
Teachers shouldn't have to deal with that kinda of atmosphere and =
neither should the children who want to learn.
=20
I honestly believe that the school district needs to form a disciplinary =
task force. This task force will be responsible for dealing with those =
children who disrupt the classroom. Once this child is referred to this =
task force, the child and their parents MUST appear in person to discuss =
the problem. So many times, when a child disrupts the class, they are =
suspended and you don't even see the parent. SUSPENSION is NOT the =
answer as a child can't learn if they are NOT in school. That parent =
needs to be held accountable!
=20
The majority of the parents listed in this mailing list are very =
involved and very concerned about their child and SAMS, but I think we =
may be the 20% that actually cares. The other 80% is sucking us, the =
administrators and especially the teachers dry and making it hard for us =
to care about SAMS and any other child in the school system.
=20
One parent ask what can we do? You're already doing all that you can =
do. The only other think you can do is either move to Lexington County =
or put your child in a private school. At least if you put your child =
in a private school, you get what you pay for and that's an education!
=20
It takes a special person to be a teacher. I sure hope we have a lot of =
those at SAMS. Thanks for letting me get off my soap box, but this =
subject is VERY personal for me.
