MESSAGE FROM ST. ANDREWS MIDDLE SCHOOL:
Make Time to Listen! Take Time to Talk About Bullying While Dining
Did you know that research has found that remarkable things can happen
if parents and caregivers spent at least 15 minutes of undivided time a
day listening and talking with their children? Starting a conversation
with children begins when parents listen to their children about what's
important in their lives.
The Office of Safe and Drug Free Schools is collaborating with B & E
Enterprises, DBA McDonalds to co-sponsor Safe and Drug Free Schools
Family Night on January 13, February 3, March 3, April 14, and May 5,
2009. The event will be held at the following McDonalds locations:
368 Harbison Boulevard
1729 Broad River Road
438 Gervais Street
2911 Two Notch Road
The Make Time to Listen! Take Time to Talk About Bullying campaign is
designed to help parents communicate with their children by taking time
to really talk and listen while dining during Safe and Drug Free Schools
Family Night.
Here's how it will work: on the dates outlined above, these four
McDonald restaurants will use specially designed paper tray liners that
have conversation-starter questions about bullying printed on them.
Our hope is that parents dining at these McDonalds restaurants will use
those questions to begin a meaningful dialogue with their children about
bullying and ways to prevent it. The more families eat dinner together,
the more comfortable conversation becomes and the more engaged our
children become in this activity.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Janice
Bell-McDowell at jmcdowell@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx or 231-6906.
