[samscommunity] Preparing Your Child for Testing on Tuesday

MESSAGE FROM ST. ANDREWS MIDDLE SCHOOL:

On Tuesday, March 10, 2009, students throughout the state will take the
Writing part of the PASS Exam. Remember, PASS replaces the former PACT
exam. Students will take the Reading, Science, Social Studies, and Math
assessments in May as in the past. Below are some tips to help prepare
your child for the test.

Taking tests, especially a new type of exam, can make anyone anxious.
Richland One is working to answer questions and concerns parents and
students may have about the new Palmetto Assessment of State Standards
(PASS) test, which will be administered to students in grades 3-8 for
the first time this spring. Strategies are listed below that may help
parents assist their children in taking the PASS test.

How can I help my child?

1. Be positive while talking to your child about the test.

2. Encourage your child to do their best.

3. Practice with your child on reading and answering questions.

 4. Make sure your child gets a good night’s rest.

 5. Make sure your child eats a good breakfast.

 6. Make sure your child’s morning is as stress free as possible.

 7. Ensure your child arrives to school on time.

 8. Send your child to school prepared with extra supplies (sharpened
#2 pencils, etc.).

 9. Avoid sending your child to school if illness is apparent. Call
the school and notify them of your child’s absence.
