MESSAGE FROM ST. ANDREWS MIDDLE SCHOOL:


Dear Parents,

As superintendent, I am proud of the resources so readily available to
us here in Richland District One. The Internet is one of those resources
and tools that are enabling our learning community to take advantage of
new ways of teaching, communicating and learning.  The vast array of
services and information currently available through the Internet are
constantly growing.  Access to and use of these resources carries with
them an important responsibility - for students, teachers, staff and
families.

The district's Acceptable Use Policy is in place to outline our
response as users to the Internet.  It is important for all members of
the Richland One learning community to understand and abide by the
policy and its administrative rule guidelines.  Annual training is
provided for staff and students concerning the policy's intent,
implementation and governance.  All violations of the policy will be
investigated with appropriate disciplinary action taken.  When students
are using Internet services in their classrooms, media centers, and
labs, teachers will be directly involved and continuously supervising
individuals and classes.  This kind of supervision, along with filtering
software, will reduce the possibility of students accessing unsuitable
information.

Recent revisions in the district's policy clarify intended use and
responsibilities at all levels.  I encourage you to discuss your family
values with your child(ren) and communicate the type of information
which you would consider objectionable.  If you feel strongly that you
do not want your child to use the Internet, then you may complete an
Internet Denial form available from the school principal.

This is an exciting time for learning.  The many possibilities that
technology continues to present to us will challenge our ability to use
them effectively.  Working together we can ensure quality instruction, a
major return on the district's technology investments as well as
literate citizens.
