Good afternoon,
Along with the bad weather we've experienced over the past few days, a new =
threat has emerged on the e-mail systems of the world. This new virus, =
dubbed MyDoom or mimail.R spread like wildfire throughout the Internet on =
Monday and Tuesday. This virus appears as a regular e-mail, perhaps sent =
from a trusted source. It has one of several different random subject =
lines, such as "Mail Delivery System," "Test" or "Mail Transaction =
Failed." The body of the e-mail contains an executable file and a =
statement such as: "The message contains Unicode characters and has been =
sent as a binary attachment." and "The message cannot be represented in =
7-bit ASCII encoding and has been sent as a binary attachment."
While these can appear to be very similar to a "non-deliverable" error =
sometimes recieved when an e-mail is sent to an address that doesn't =
exist, it is important not to be fooled. A non-deliverable message will =
never include a program, and will never ask you to run it. Please be sure =
that you do not open these types of attatchments, and be sure to check =
with the sender to make sure that any attachments you are receiving are =
legitimate.
More information on "MyDoom" may be found here:

cid=3D9547

This virus has a "self-destruct" date of Feburary 12, 2004 (when it will =
stop spreading) built in, but it is important to remain vigilant and =
cautious about any e-mail you receive that has an attachment.
As always make sure to never open any suspicious attachments, and be sure =
to doublecheck with the sender to make sure the attachments is authentic.

Sometimes, people will forward e-mails about viruses. These forwards are =
not always accurate. In some cases, the forwards are hoaxes to alarm =
those who read them. Then these people clutter the e-mails of others with =
unnecessary warnings. Whenever in doubt, you may check the website below. =
You can search the virus, threat, or hoax by name to find out information =
about it. =20
This site is maintained by the company that manufactures "Norton's =
Antivirus Software."
Always remember, be cautious when opening attachments.
