I am sending a message from Ms. Imogene Clarke who is in charge of Student 
Nutrition Services for the district.  This is her response to my email about 
putting meal applications online.  See what can be accomplished when you are 
patient, work together, and share positive thoughts and concerns.  
Unfortunately, we are still miles away from reaching our goal, but now we have 
a definite response to the problem.  That is the first step for changing the 
outcome of our community.

Thank you for your e-mail regarding meal applications.  We have been in 
discussion with the State Department of Education, School Nutrition regarding 
this matter for 2 years.   Unfortunately, we are not at the point to have 
application online for 2 reasons: A signature of an adult household member must 
be liste on the application.  An electronic signature has not be approved by 
USDA.  Also, our applications are numbered. Our means of tracking an 
application through the software we use.  
 
I agree with you online application would make the process less time consuming 
for our parents.  As we look for ways to work smarter and will continue to 
pursuing  this issue.

Hello all,

I wasn't sure who should get this message, so I sent it to all people involved 
with meal applications.

Recently, at St. Andrews Middle School, an announcement was made reminding 
students to turn in applications for free/reduced lunch.  This same 
announcement was sent as an email to parents in our school discussion group.  
Several parents have asked about making the application available online.  Is 
this possible.  They have listed reasons such as:

1.  availability
2.  time involved in transportation to and from schools
3.  careless students
4.  summer hours for completing applications
5.  locations for completing applications

I felt that I should send an email to get a response to their discussion 
concerning applications.  Is it possible for the applications to be put online. 
 If so, when will this take place.  If not, who do we need to contact to make 
them available.
