MESSAGE FROM ST. ANDREWS MIDDLE SCHOOL:


Parents, 

A letter was sent home today about cell phone use at school.  The letter is 
below. Please respond to the email if you have any questions or concerns.



Dear Parents:

The administration and faculty at St. Andrews Middle School would like to take 
this opportunity to address what began as a few isolated instances, but has now 
become a school wide issue.
Some students are interrupting the learning process by bringing electronic 
devices (i.e. cell phones, hand held games, etc.) to class, and also 
distributing unauthorized material (selling candy for personal profit).

The Richland County School District One Discipline Code Book States:

Possession of Electronic Devices (Page 11): Level One Offense.  Level One 
Offenses are to be handled by the building principal.  At this level, any 
confiscation of an electronic device will be held until the parent or guardian 
of that students personally retrieves that object from St. Andrews Middle 
School.  A Level One offense may also include a verbal reprimand or up to 5 
days out-of-school suspension.

Distribution of Unauthorized Material (Page 9 Section I): Level Two Offense.  
Level Two Offenses result in anything from a verbal reprimand, to a long-term 
placement in an alternative program.  If a student is caught selling anything 
on campus without prior approval, that student will be asked to hand over the 
product.  If the student fails to do so, the student will be given 
out-of-school suspension at the principal's discretion.

We would appreciate any support you can offer to continue to help St. Andrews 
Middle School become the best middle school we can be. We strive to have the 
best students in the state, and thank you in advance for your understanding.
