[sac-forum] Re: tonight

We had a pleasant evening down at GRCO (the Observatory at the Riparian water park in Gilbert, just east of Guadelupe and Greenfield rds.) last night with "the usual suspects" from EVAC -- Randy Peterson, Martin Thomas, Bill Dellinges, Claude Haynes, and others. I set up my 25x100 binos. Nice views of the planets -- Venus, Saturn, Jupiter, some other brighter "urban" objects. Good crowds, as usual -- Martin counted about 178 folks at the 16 inch dome over the evening...(not all at once, of course!) Not exactly a truly "dark" place, but fun anyways, and the public enjoys it. I have been getting a few views from my balcony up here in Fountain Hills, too, despite the neighbors' porch lights. Saw the very thin crescent Moon Friday morning over the Four Peaks range. Haven't seen that thin a Moon in a long time.

I'm up for either. At this point, I'll take just about any form of observing,
including the kind that includes a dark site, comfortable lawn chair, good
conversation and a cirrus smattered sky.

At the moment (11 am) I'm inclined to agree with Tom and go to Antennas.
Although the CSC looks crappy for both places, the various weather sites
seem to agree that Antennas will be less cloudy and should improve
during the night. I'm willing to take a chance on weather if I had
company.
