[sac-forum] Re: Wednesday Night's Site Evaluations

I concur with Tom's report of our scouting mission on Wednesday evening. In my
opinion the Gas Line / Saddle Mountain site is far superior to Flatiron (no
comparison, really). The only element of this new site that we didn't evaluate
was what effect any nighttime traffic along Dobbins Road might have. Given that
it's a dirt road I would expect there to be less traffic at night here than
along Wickenburg Road (at Flatiron). During our stay at the site we didn't
encounter any passing vehicles. Naturally, there was the dome of metropolis to
the northeast.

Rather than post driving times to the sites, which can vary depending on one's
driving habits, I'll supply driving distances from my east valley location:

Flatiron - 85 miles
About 17 miles are not freeway

Gas Line / Saddle Mountain - 95 miles (according to software, as I haven't
driven directly there from here yet)
About 19 miles are not freeway

Hovatter - 125 miles
About 10 miles are not freeway

I would say that this new site is worthy of a return trip... this time with a
big reflector and a few friends!

Peter
