[sac-forum] Re: Wednesday Night's Site Evaluations

I Agree.. Now if we could pick, say the top three contenders. Have a core
group (two to three individuals) at each site, on the same night with SQM's,
GPS, Compass. etc. In cell communication. Make the measurements you have
outlined, we could then put the data on a map, find the source of light
domes in question (triangulation from the observations), check land
ownership present it to the club for review / questions and have a site
group make a decision.

BTW - How many SQM's do we have within the club?

Is there any way to compare the various sites in an organized way?

For example, could we get consistent info for Saddle Mt., FI, Dirt
Blvd., and Antennas? Based on the questions and comments, maybe
something like: miles on interstate and off to each location from a
defined spot (like the Stack), SQM readings if possible, horizon light
dome scan, headlight intrusion, and general site evaluation (capacity,
surface, dust, etc).

My impression is that the primary objective for 3rd quarter moon is good
site quality with minimum travel time. For new moon, I get the idea that
site quality is most important and travel time maybe a little less so.

What do you think? I have some time that I could invest in this, even
outside of regular viewing sessions. On 3/10, the weather gods willing,
could we split up between several sites and get some comparative data?

Jimmy, I don't think Dirt Boulevard is off the list - at least not just
now. From the tone of the discussion about Saddle Mountain site it is
clearly in the drivers seat. It would be a good idea to have it
investigated, also. Not sure about how to go about scheduling such an
outing what with the Messier Marathon (just had to get a plug in for
that) and Five Mile Meadow coming up.

We should be glad to have such problems:)

Clear skies,
aj
