[sac-forum] Re: Viewing sites for Saturday, September 27th

Steve,

Saddle Mountain is out, It was tested earlier in the year when the calendar
was worked up but later deemed to have too many problems.

From the tone of the messages, it looks like every one will be heading out
to the Antennas, which is about 90 Miles west on -10 on Hovatter Road, South
of the freeway.

Here are directions to the Hovatter site south of I-10.

Travel time about 2 hours from I-10 and I-17 stack on the west side of town.
Go west on I-10 to Hovatter Rd at exit 53 or about 40 miles west of Palo
Verde Nuclear Power generating station. Turn left, south, over the freeway,
drive over the canal and then the road takes a sharp right and the pavement
ends at a "dead end" sign. Turn left at the sign and you will be headed
directly toward some radio and cell phone antennas. After you pass the
antennas the road takes a sharp right and makes its way through a wash or
stream gulley; then the road levels off for half a mile before you pass into
a second gulley. As soon as you come out of the second gulley the observing
site is on your left. It is a large desert pavement that is exactly 2 miles
from the I-10 freeway.

Subject: [sac-forum] Viewing sites for Saturday, September 27th

I was looking at the SAC September 2008 calendar and it lists the "SAC Star
Party at Saddle Mountain". The posts in sac-forum are talking about either
5 Mile Meadow or Antenna site with the consensus being Antenna site.

I typically go to Boyce Thompson or to Vekol Road for deep star weekend. I
haven't been to Saddle Mountain, 5 Mile Meadow, or the Antenna site though.
I'd like to attend one of these sites on Saturday, September 27th but I'm
looking for guidance as to which of them is the best candidate. I'll be
bringing an XT10i dob.

Thanks in advance
Steve
