[sac-forum] Re: Stepper Motor for Barn Door Tracker

Jim,

If you haven't already located a stepper motor, there's one at Jameco.com that
will probably work, catalog number 172646, for $21. It's a 9.6V unit but
should still give good barn-door performance at 6V and draw less current than
the motor used in the SAC club project back around 1990. That motor was a
Superior Electric Slo-Syn SS25-1209U. What's needed is a 200 step unipolar
stepper (1.8 deg step angle) with winding resistance in the neighborhood of
10-50 ohms and a 1/4 inch shaft. Finding these things in Phoenix will be hard,
so online sources are probably best. Same goes for the IC, which is listed
online. I have an Nth generation copy of that club's barn door driver circuit,
which is the same one that Steve Coe and several others built. Unfortunately
it's outdated because it used several IC's and discrete driver transistors.
Contact me off-line if you'd like some of that info.

Paul

I am building a Barn Door Tracker. Does anybody know where I can get a
stepper motor and a SAA1027 driver in Phoenix?
