[sac-forum] Re: SAC membership renewal

If I may offer my comments relative to using PayPal for membership renewals:

EVAC recently instituted this option for our membership. The expense for
this method of payment is borne by those who wish to utilize it.
We opened a premier business account, which is free. We enabled the
electronic transfer of monies to our bank account, also free.
We simply added $1 to any transaction processed via PayPal, and this covers
the expense. PayPal charges a fee of 2.9% of the transaction amount, plus
30¢. EVAC membership renewals are $20, and $21 if using PayPal. ($21 x 2.9%
= 61¢ + 30¢ = 91¢ total fees) PayPal automatically subtracts their fees, so
for such a transaction we would have a balance of $20.09, which covers the
expense.
Our motivation in providing this payment option was in an attempt to reduce
the number of non-renewals and late renewals by providing a convenient
alternative to mailing a check. The check option is still available, of
course. So is paying in person at a meeting. :-)

So far it has worked wonderfully.
