What a great gig! How'd you land that one? We'll be there. Any idea on
how many folks they're expecting?

Club Members and Guests,
I met with the Rangers today and we went up to the site. Pretty much just
follow the Summit Road up to the TV towers about 6 miles after passing
thru the Park Entrance and the Ranger Station (which was the old entrance
a few years back - no longer have to pay a quarter!). At the top you will
meet two forks with signs, the Dobbins Lookout turn-in and the Buena Vista
Lookout turn-in. Just go right each time, following the sign arrows to
"Gila Valley Lookout/TV towers". We'll set up on the N and E side of the
parking lot. The TV towers are to the north and a nice view of Ahwatukee
and part of Chandler to the southeast. Weather should be perfect, around
70 F with a slight breeze possibly.

Club Members!
Come one, come all to our first Public Star Party of the season. Bring
your telescopes, cameras, chairs, stepstools, water, and hot chocolate!
Green laser pointers welcome (observe cautions). The weather is chilly but
beautiful! Jupiter and Mercury in the sky. We will be allowed to drive up
to the Lookout, the Public will take the shuttles. Tell the ranger you are
with the Club or you have a telescope. Restroom facilities and
refreshments provided.
Date: Friday, October 5th, 2007
Location: South Mountain Park at the Gila Valley Lookout, Phoenix AZ
Time: As soon as you can get there - 7:00 to 10:00 pm, Sunset - 6:08 pm
Moon: Waning, out of the sky
Hosted by the Saguaro Astronomy Club
and
The Phoenix Parks & Recreation Dept.
Directions:
From the Park Entrance at the base of Central Avenue -
Continue on N Stephen Mather Dr for 1.3 mi
Bear left onto E Telegraph Pass for 3.3 mi
Turn right (SE) onto Buena Vista Rd for 0.8 mi
Turn right (S) off of Buena Vista Rd to Gila Valley Lookout.
Watch the signs, make sure you go to Gila Valley Lookout which is past
both Dobbins and Buena Vista Lookout. Gila Valley Lookout is the highest
at 2660 ft. but still blocks Phx, and should provide some nice photo-ops
to the South, East, and West.
I'll remind you later this week and have some more details. Also don't
forget our Public Star Party with Glendale Parks and Recreation at T-Bird
Park on October 20.
