AJ, Ken, et al;
The "Six hundred doubles" list is a compilation of a variety of lists we
found and put together about 1986 or so. There were a set of articles in
Sky and Telescope from Mullaney and McCall, the doubles from Norton's and a
couple of books that I had. We just typed them all in an agreed format and
used a simple ASCII text form so that we could all use it. I used my brand
new "286" computer, with a 20 MEGABYTE hard drive and a color display.
At least, that is how I remember it;

Does anyone have a recent version of this database? It has something like
600 doubles. I have a listing but the character set is messed up. Will
keep looking around on my hard drive to see if I still have one.
Clear skies,
aj

Steve,
I'm not sure who to direct this question to so please forward it to the
appropriate party.
I just received a new Starmaster 14.5 loaded with Sky Commander/Sky Tracker
go-to. My first night out I was very disappointed in the data base for
Doubles. Sky Commander claims their data base has the 600 best double stars
provided by Saguaro Astronomy Club.
Several doubles I attempted to pull up were 36 Andromedae, 78 Pegasi, 32
Orionis, Beta Monocerotis, and Theta Cancri. None of these were in the Sky
Commander data base but are listed on your Version 3.3 data list (except 32
Orionis).
Can you folks send me a copy of specifically what you provided to Sky
Commander? There seems to be a lot missing in Sky Commander's Rev 4.0 data
base. Thank you.
Sincerely,
Jim DellaPenna
