[sac-forum] Re: SAC Double star database and Sky Commander

AJ,

What SW or word processor was used to assemble the database? I have a slew
of fonts & viewers on my R&D sys. that will view just about anything. If you
send me a copy I can see if I can clean it up to a more current viewer / file
format. Just a thought. Take care..

20 years ago. I found a couple of old copies but are difficult to read - in
some cases. It used the Greek alphabet for indicating catalog but there isn't
a font available to show them clearly. For instance the beta for Burnham's
shows up as ?. Another is sigma, which shows up as ?. There are other
formatting problems that will have to be cleared up to make it more readable.

The list was put together by, "Bill Anderson, Steve Coe, A.J. Crayon, David
Fredericksen and Ken Sikes" as indicated in the first sentence.

  Clear skies,
  aj

All, I have a copy of the SAC double star database, version 3.3, with 2,158
pairs in it. Is this what you are looking for?

  AJ, et al;

I had a big disk clean off when I bought the new computer. I am not certain
that I kept an old version of the small double star data because I knew it was
all in the big database.

Does anyone have a recent version of this database? It has something like
600 doubles. I have a listing but the character set is messed up. Will keep
looking around on my hard drive to see if I still have one.

    Clear skies,

    Steve,

I'm not sure who to direct this question to so please forward it to the
appropriate party.

I just received a new Starmaster 14.5 loaded with Sky Commander/Sky Tracker
go-to. My first night out I was very disappointed in the data base for
Doubles. Sky Commander claims their data base has the 600 best double stars
provided by Saguaro Astronomy Club.

Several doubles I attempted to pull up were 36 Andromedae, 78 Pegasi, 32
Orionis, Beta Monocerotis, and Theta Cancri. None of these were in the Sky
Commander data base but are listed on your Version 3.3 data list (except 32
Orionis).

Can you folks send me a copy of specifically what you provided to Sky
Commander? There seems to be a lot missing in Sky Commander's Rev 4.0 data
base. Thank you.

    Sincerely,

    Jim DellaPenna
