Not sure if you've all seen my red LED table chart lamp at a star party, but have I got a deal for you do-it-yourselfers.
I have just about enough parts (minus the batteries and one knob) to make two lamps. I thought I'd build a couple more, but haven't gotten around to it. It's easy to build, given that you possess the ability to read a simple schematic diagram and can do some basic soldering. 


Included in the kit:

1 - desk lamp

4 - super ultrabright red LEDs (that's what they're called)

1 - LM317 voltage regulator

1 - 100uF 35v capacitor

2 - 1N4001 diodes

1 - 1k potentiometer

1 - knob (only one kit will have the knob)

1 - 10 ohm ¼ watt resistor

1 - 220 ohm ¼ watt resistor

1 - 560 ohm ¼ watt resistor

1 - small perfboard

1 - DC power jack
You supply the power source of your choice. The kit will allow you to construct a 12-volt DC, 120-volt AC or combo lamp. I built mine as 12-volt only, since I only use it at star parties. For power I use a 5-Ah gel cell that cost about $20 and lasts around 100 hours at max brightness (a level never actually used) between recharges.
