[sac-forum] Re: Red LED Lamp Project Questions

Thanks Jimmy,

I have 2 basic problems right off the top.

1) There are 2 diodes shown on the diagram - they seem to be between
the 2 potential power sources and the board. They don't show up on the pix
of the board. Where do they go? For that matter, where does power come
into the board?

2) I can't seem to figure out from the diagram and the pix of the back
of the board, just what is connected to what and which way the LEDs should
be oriented.

3) Bonus question: Is there any advantage to trying to put the
components in the base? If so, does that take another board then?

It is my hope to make 3 of these, because I have a couple of friends I'd
like to give them to as gifts. I have the components for all 3, but I'd
need to get more circuit boards.

Thanks again,

Fran

Hi Fran,

Hope all is well. The website you mention was Andrew Cooper's "Silicon Owl"
site from when he lived here. I have built and use his lamp all the time and
is an excellent project. For me, I made some modifications as the lamp I
picked up from Home Depot was a bit different from the one Andrew had. Plus
I liked having all the electronics in the base. Feel free to ask any
questions, etc. that you any have. My email is jimmy_ray@xxxxxxxx

Subject: [sac-forum] Red LED Lamp Project Questions

I've accumulated the parts list for the red LED lamp at "A Darker View" but
I think I need a little more information than I can glean from the diagrams
and photos. (In spite of my advanced age, I have virtually no experience
with this kind of thing - but I'd like to change that!)

If there is someone who has experience with this project (or just knowledge
about such projects) and has patience for a yeni, I'd appreciate some help.

If you are willing and able, please contact me off list @ mcqz@xxxxxxxxxxxxx

Thanks,

Fran
