[sac-forum] Possible nutcase email....

Hey all,
OK, it had to happen eventually, but I finally got a "I keep seeing a UFO"
email from my email being posted on the SAC website. It was sent to me and
Jack. I'd cutnpaste it here, but it's dying a slow, painful death at the hands
of my spamfilter, and I can't do anything with it right now. Anyhow, the jist
of it is that the guy lives out in Quartzsite and during the summer, he saw a
bright object in the West about 30* up, and it went below the horizon about an
hour later, and now he's seeing the "same" object in the NE, and it slowly
moves South. He says it's mostly white, with reds and greens, and through
binoculars, it is rotating.

He claims that the public affairs director at Kitt Peak (he did say a name,
I'll have to look at it once I get home) sent him to us. The routing path
doesn't look hokey, and doesn't appear to be any strange html coding in the
email. It's entirely possible that this is a legitimate question. The thing
that seems hokey is why someone from Kitt Peak wouldn't explain the obvious
things to him and then shine him on to us.

Now, I'm not even gonna come close to starting/perpetuating a UFO discussion,
but rather, how the heck do I deal with this? Do I blow him off? Do I explain
that he's probably seeing bright stars through a turblent atmosphere and he
should learn a bit more about the sky? Swamp gas? Upper atmospheric methane
crystallization? Quit smoking crack at night?

Any thoughts?

Thad
