This is way off topic.

C is out of date. C++ is the new fella. Actually there is  a D out 
now too. C++ is very powerful if you wish to invest in learning it 
(plan on 1 - 2 years).  For anyone interested in finding out more

C++ as with C can be complied for different platforms. This protects 
your code and makes the program run much faster.

Personally I use FileMaker Pro as a cross-platform Rapid Application 
Development System. I can put together a program and have it up and 
running in a small fraction of the time it would take to do it in 
C/C++. While FileMaker Pro is a database development program, it is 
surprising how many applications are really databases (e.g., creation 
and archiving of newsletter (data can be exported in .pdf format 
and/or served on the web), astro photographs, observations and any 
other data.
