[sac-forum] Re: Park Ranger Needs HELP Mr. Wizard!

 Hi Jeff,

I don't know where this park is, but I live at 91st ave and Camelback, so it is
not too far. Is there an address I can do a mapquest on. thx

Hi Debbie,

I've been helping Patricia with the star parties so I will be there. It's on a
Friday night, 21 August. If you would like I could meet you at the entrance and
you could follow me in. It's about half a mile off the paved road, but an easy
dirt road. It's a nice location for a star party.

Depending on the days, I would like to do this. I can't do it alone because I
don't have as much knowledge as the others in this group, but you can count on
me for one of the scopes. Let me know more details as you get them. thx

Patricia, I'm forwarding your request to SAC members who, in addition to
myself, may be able to be of assistance. This will, also, get this put on the
SAC calendar giving more visibility.

First question coming to my mind is how many scopes would you think are needed?
I'm sure we can have one but perhaps even 5 or 10 would show up.

Thank you for asking us to volunteer.

Jack, I know you are in charge of Public Events but thought it advisable to let
other SAC member be aware of this opportunity.

Do you think you could find someone who might want to do a star party Friday
August 21 730pm? We have the best dark sky in the metro area. Your volunteer
could invite his friends for free. It’s a fairly popular thing during the hot
summer and it’s one way I can actually get people in the gate in the summer.
You might get some new club members too! Bring anything your club is promoting.

Patricia, I can't commit to a once a month setting, but what I will do is to
post your request on the SAC e-mail list for the Public Outreach director and
request he contact you and work on setting up something with a volunteer for
each month.

Hi! I’m the park ranger in Goodyear on the west side near Phoenix. Every
month I lead a hike called “Dark Sky Hike”. I had a guy-Steve Dermer- who
would set up his telescope out in the desert (he drove) and I’d lead a group
out and back. He is now ill and can’t do it anymore. Do you have a hobbyist
who might be willing to commit once a month-or even less-to help with this
program? I’m not getting the star thing. Altho I’ve tried-I’m just not doing
a very good job. It’s a popular hike, people love looking at stars. Tony
Laconte of Stargazing For Everyone knows me and the park if you want a
referral. The point we hike to is drivable so no hiking is involved for the
astronomer. It’s about a 2 hr commitment and once a month would be lovely.
The stargazing out here is pretty good and dark considering the area. I can
trade horseback rides for stars or write a college recommendation letter (as I
did for Kevin Lagore). I’d really love to be able to offer this program again.
 Can you help?
