[sac-forum] Re: Observing Tuesday Night

Well I got a chance to do a lot of observing. It will take a while to enter
them in my log but here are two memorable ones.

NGC6826, the blinking planetary. The 14mm Ultra Wide gave the best view at
around 140X. With direct vision the central star was visible along with a
small faint halo around the edges. With averted vision it was larger and
brighter with the central star not visible. In either case the planetary
nebula was always seen, it didn't blink nor did it wink.

The other observation took place around 11:30pm MST. Without glasses the
summer Milky Way was visible from due east of Polaris to the zenith just past
Deneb. Turning around to look southward was a wash. The aurora Phoenicis
reduced any and all contrast - at least what little there was.

It will take a while to reduce observations but it was definately an enjoyable
time, especially the below 90 deg temperatures and severely clear skies.

Clearer skies,
aj

I would suggest that if you have a chance to setup a telescope for tonight
you should do so. The skies are severely clear and something that doesn't
happen during the monsoon season. Also, if you have grass that needs to be
cut, try putting on some insect repellant as the mesquites' and what ever you
have there will have a feast.

My first plan is to look at Jupiter for a while, then a few doubles followed
by some deep sky entries that are in the SAC Urban List.

Hope you have fun - I will.

  Clear skies,
  aj
