[sac-forum] Re: Novice Group and the current "problem"....

Since I do not attend star parties (although I would if I had a portable
telescope and
will if I get one), I am not sure if we are talking about the Cherry Road star
party.
I think we are because the discussion in this message is about this(?) Saturday
and
that is when the Cherry Road Star Party is supposed to take place. Assuming we
are
talking about the Cherry Road Star Party (even though it is under the email
heading of
"Novice Group") my own philosophy is that this is a club planned event and
should go
ahead irrespective of speculations about the weather. Yes, a couple months ago
the
weather was really bad at the Cherry Road star party then, but that kind of
weather
was unusual. Further, the "The heck with the monsoon star party" implies a star
party
irrespective of the monsoon. Of course, if it is obvious the weather will be
that bad,
then it should be called off, but from my experience it is not that easy to
know if
the weather 'really' will be as bad as what forecasters are predicting. My
experience
with the hurricane that was supposed to have whipped through Arizona a number
of years
ago is a case in point. "Everyone" was predicting everything short of disaster,
but
that Saturday night turned out to be completely clear, nice and cool, with only
a
slight breeze.

The gas situation is a different story. If it is not wise to have a star party
because
of it, then it should be called off.
