[sac-forum] Re: Night of clouds at Dirt Blvd

Howdy all;

Well, yet again, it was clear in the afternoon and then clouded over once the Sun went down. I have grown very tired of this scenario. We had 11 vehicles and folks hoping for some good viewing and it never materialized. A few stayed behind, but most of us gave up about 9:00 PM as a big cloud bank made its way over the western horizon. We did get a short peek at Comet Holmes. It is still bright, pretty large and round with an off-center central core. What an amazing object.

As Joe mentioned, we're glad that all the folks that left brought their cloud-hooks with them. The sky's really did clear up with simple cloud bands moving through after about 10:30. The comet was glorious and things to the South got so clean that we could easily find NGC253 and NGC288 in the binoculars (that's to Chris' prodding). I was very pleased to get a really solid view of Uranus in the 9.25".

Also, the moon's rise was glorious as was Saturn around 3am. Bob also scored Mercury just before dawn,

As to the longevity of this sight, did anyone else notice the development that's popping up on Hwy 80 and all of the for sale signs on the farm properties?

To Chris, Rich, and Joe from Bob and I - great time and thanks for sticking it out.

Tim

Oh well, here’s hoping that the last Sentinel Star Party for next weekend will do better.

See you there;
