[sac-forum] Re: Google sky

Thank you Wayne found your comments very helpful.
Fortunately I do have a temperamental xp, but not much ram on it about 330.
Well I downloaded google earth on it today and seems ok, apart from slow
streeming. I will have to study how to navigate the program. All I seem to be
running is tour. I was hoping I could for example zoom down to somewhere in
Africa. Tried clicking on sky but said service not available at this time.
Where can I obtain a cd for Linoux puppy, cant download it as I don't have a
burner working for cd copy.
It's the stars and planets I would like to study as I know very little about
them, only loads of questions I need tuition with. Seems silly asking daft
questions to the experts far advanced in their projects.
Any way thanks again Peter-- Original Message -----

  Hey Peter,

Unfortunately you're going to run into that more and more. And one of the
biggest things to be concerned about is as of May of last year Microsoft
stopped supporting Win98 and WinME, so that means no security updates or
patches anymore. I would highly recommend upgrading to WinXP as soon as you
can or you're going to soon find your system full of viruses and trojans if it
isn't already. Assuming it's not brand new hardware Vista is going to kill it
- it's requirements are just way too high for anything a few years old unless
it was totally top of the line big $$$ just a few years ago. But WinXP should
be fine.

Another open is to switch over to Linux. I've been running Ubuntu Linux on
my system for over a year. Google has a version of Google Earth for Linux and
it's fast & stable. I haven't had a chance yet to see if the Google Sky works
with it.

  Wayne

I downloaded link google earth, but would not install because it stated not
supported for your computer. Which is a 98se. Any suggestions welcomed,
without buying Vista. Peter
