I've reposted this to SAC Forum as, I forgot, I don't have access to SAC
Newslist. This call for Canis Major has been giving me troubles ever since
Ifirst started with this sequence. Just don't as Telrad how many times I've
sent a corrected copy - only to find it still had problems. I hope it
doesn't cause you folks the problem it has caused me (o;
Thanks - again,
aj

No doubt all of you have read the Call for Observations appearing on page 9
of the just released SAC Newsletter. And I'm sure (o; you are aware there
are some problems with the description of objects for Canis Major. The
following is a correction for the entire CMa description.
For February we are going to take a tour of Canis Major. While most of us
are aware it has many open clusters and nebula, not all of us realize it
doeshave a very nice selection of galaxies, which are included in our list.
First will be NGC2207 and IC2163, a pair of interacting galaxies with
magnitudes of 10.8 and 13.4 respectively. NGC2217 is a barred spiral with a
very faint ring. NGC2325 is another fairly bright galaxy. NGC2354 is a
pretty rich galactic star cluster. NGC2362 is a scant degree northeast of
NGC2354. This cluster includes tau (t) Canis Majoris, which is also a nice
double; please include your description of this double in your observation.
NGC2359 is an interesting nebula. Beware; this emission nebula is not very
bright and seems to respond well to UHC filters. Try it if you have one and
let us know your results. NGC2367 is a fairly small but interesting
galacticcluster. NGC2374 is our last selection. No I didn't forget M41. I
have passed it up in order for us to realize there are also many nice
galaxies in this constellation.
While there are many nebulae in Canis Major, there are no planetary nebulae
with an NGC designation; at least not according to the SAC database.
Hope this hasn't cause any confusion. And I hope it is correct - finally!
Thanks and clear skies to all for this New Year,
aj

Hey, I beat the deadline! It's still 2004. Anyway, Stan had the newsletter
ready to post yesterday, however in a continuation of "the month from hell",
my hard drive crashed, burned &died. Fortunately all Important files were
recovered and I'm just now getting stuff reinstalled. Anyway, Here is the
