Steve,
Does the chair have some sort of ring and pinion gear system? It sounds like
it probably needs a gearmotor for low speed and high torque. I purchased a
Leeson 1/8 HP gearmotor for my grinding table a couple years ago. I never
found these locally. It's intended for variable speed operation and the
full-speed operating voltage is 90V, which gives about 80 RPM. I'm very happy
with it. Leeson also makes 12 V "low voltage" gearmotors and I will send you
their pdf brochure.

Does anyone here know how to select a suitable motor to be used on Pierre's
binocular chair? I'd specifically like to know how to calculate the torque and
rpm's I might need. Any hints on where I might buy the motors locally would be
good, too.
Thanks.
