[sac-forum] Do we want big changes in SAC?

So, I guess this is the big question.
Yes, I am resistant to big changes in how SAC conducts its business. I don't
want the club to grow large enough that it creates problems with room size. I
don't want the club to start owning too much property, such as: land or big
club telescopes. I don't believe that the members of SAC wish to take on the
hassles of managing such time-consuming club assets.

It seems to me that for a core membership of 40 or so people, the method that
SAC has adopted works just fine. We only allow 30 minutes of club business
because we don't have that much business to conduct. The rest of the meeting
is about astronomy. When I am the VP and manage to get a good speaker the room
is about 75% to 90% full and I start to look around and say "what would we do
with another 25 members?" If we really do decide to take on a big membership
drive, I think that a search for a larger room should precede that decision.

I think that some income from T shirts, hats and selling off any other
equipment we might still have is great.....let's do it.

The fact that we had 20 scopes and over 200 people at the latest public star
party says to me that we are still doing things right. The large group at 5
mile meadow provides the same evidence to me.

Maybe a page in the newsletter that would provide a feedback form and a box at
a meeting to collect the sheets and see what the members want.

What changes does a majority of the SAC membership wish to enact?

If the answer to that question is "not much" then let's move on. If there are
changes that the membership wants to take on, let's see what the best method
will be to enact those changes.
