I have sent an e-mail to Rick T. as I have handed off all the contact
information to him. Steve Rodgers and I did not notice a sign except the
one at the top of the road that indicates no cross country travel. There
is no road that I can find on the map I have. I will send a scanned map
to the board off list.

Jack, this is a good question for Andrew Goodwin to answer. He had

answer for us.
Thanks and clear skies,

There is what could pass for a "road" along the northern edge of the
Cherry II area. I wonder if there is a penalty or fine for breaching
an NFS Road Closed sign or it was put there as a CYA for them?

Steve, et al.,
Managed to stop over at Cherry II earlier today to review the access
issue. It looks pretty good. I wouldn't recommend anyone with a
Ferrari attempt to get in there but the ol' family sedan should have
no problems. See attached. This access location is probably 250'
south of the normal entrance. There was yet another location where
people had been driving into the site between the one pictured and
the normal entrance but that one looked a little too rough.
One note: At the "normal" entrance to Cherry II (where there is now
an 2' ditch) I did see a National Forest sign (one of those 4" wide,
3' tall brown fiberglass posts) that said "Road Closed." Not sure
if there is some reason besides the ditch for this sign. Nothing at
the site looked out of the ordinary.

Chris;
I would like it very much if you would provide a report on the
entrance to
the Cherry road sites. I think that will be very good indeed. All
this
discussion assumes that the site remains open and that at least some
rain
falls in that area in the next couple of weeks.
Crazy that Texas is getting flooded out and we are dry as bone.
See ya;

I'm up for a little digging also, if that's what it takes. Cherry
II, in my
opinion is a lot nicer than Cherry I. Last night was my first time
at C I
and I'm still finding talcom-powder like dirt all over everything.
Anything
I can do to help out I certainly will.
I know I'm new here; however, my wife and I are possibly going to
take our
new pop-up camper to Happy Jack next weekend to try it out. Since
we'll be
in the area, I would certainly be willing to further investigate the
C II
access issue and possibly talk to the people down at the ranch
regarding it.
I don't want to overstep my bounds here, just looking to help in any
way I
can. No hard feelings if this isn't what you or the club had in mind.

Steve, if we can get decent access to Cherry II it would be better IMHO
than dodging cowpies and bulls at Cherry I. Plus I think it's larger.
I'd be happy to arrive early with a shovel (weak back and weak mind,
but
what the heck). Also, you'd think there'd be more issue with our
using a
fenced and gated area (C I) versus an open area like C II,
regardless of
the road grading issue.

Howdy all;
I am considering a time and place for the annual "Heck with the
Monsoons"
star party. I know we usually do Cherry Road, but I don't know which
location to name? Some folks said that there were lots of cows and
bulls at
the Cherry I site with the fence and I saw that the Cherry II site to
the
left has a deep cut that would make it tough to get at with the family
car.
So, give me some input here.
I am going to make it Saturday, August 11. I know that is a New Moon
weekend, but I just think that we will be lucky to get a few hours of
clear
sky. I doubt that we would be wasting a New Moon at Cherry Road.
So, it be the usual Novice Group session and I will announce that at
both
the EVAC and SAC meetings this month.
Let me know what you think, we can get up there early and do a little
road
work for the Cherry II site, if that is what it takes. Anyone have a
bulldozer??
See ya;
Steve Coe
