[sac-forum] Re: Dark Sky Sites and Schedules?

Dear Darrell,

Thank you Darrell for coming to our forum and requesting the info. Much is
available via the forums, but yes it takes awhile to sort through all the
messages just to locate the pertinent data you are searching for. A lot of
times you can just do a google or any other search for "Astronomy & Phoenix"
for curent alternative events & location information. Good luck and hope you
are able to make it to a fun filled Star party in the future.

  Sincerely,
  Steve Palmer

  P.S. FYI...

This was the issue I brought up months ago when all the steaming broadcasts
occurred. As I stated then, many new members, prospects & the general public
had asked me & others as to where they could locate info on upcoming events.
It wasn't just me trying to be obnoxious or anything. I was forward looking at
increasing our membership & outreach programs. This just further points out my
request & suggestions in the past about putting up a simple link or page on our
website listing upcoming events. This is what nearly every other local club,
organization or meetup group already does. Or at the least the most successful
ones. :).. As a result many prospective individuals end up locating there info
from alternative clubs, then attending those events & not ours. To me this is
the only common sense thing and best option to do. This "IS" what almost any
prospective visitor / future astronomer would expect from a well organized &
competent club.

  Respectfully,
  Steve Palmer

Could someone please post a quick schedule (or provide a link) of
upcoming gatherings at "dark sky" sites in the valley? I'd love to make
a couple as I have awakened a sleeping demon (astronomy monster) and am
trying to make up for lost time.

I have seen the SAC site, but was wondering if there might be other,
less "formal" gatherings as well.

I'm interested in joining SAC and would love to meet a few folks - and
get the Dob out to an area where I can actually see southern sky
features. (I live in the far north valley).

Thanks,

Darrell
